We do get a significant number of emails accusing GTS of being a big business or company partly because of the .com web address and also because the site is fairly large and such a site would cost a fortune if commercially created.

Those who know us know it is our families response to a holiday we had in Gambia in 1997. the site is created single handed and GTS is run as a totally non profit making concern to employ gambians an sponsor education.

This down time was due, (I think,) to hosting server maintenance problems in the USA, followed by delays in restoring links to people with remote sites, let me try to explain how it works.

The GTS site is actually hosted by Lineone, and has a full web address of http://website.lineone.net/~gambiagts (you can try this address and it opens up the normal GTS home page) BUT this rather unmemorable web address, is fronted with the registered .com domain name of www.GambiaTouristSupport.com which auto forwards all users to the pages stored by Lineone, now run by Tiscali or should do

Normally this complicated routing does not affect most web surfers, in search engine results - many users don't even notice the http://website.lineone.net/~gambiagts/something.htm link, they just click the link and open the page.

BUT if the US domain host 'Plesk' has a problem as in this recent case or if Tiscali have a problem as they did in Autumn 2001, then users get that awful site not found screen and often assume the site has died or been removed.

This is definitely not the case with GTS, which, if it suffers from anything, suffers from it's own success. (see side panel and guest book glowing references)

We can always do with items and stories from members and non members with pictures please about their Gambian experiences good and bad. please email them to me at GTS the email link is in the column to the left..
