London Family members, the Shortt's returned after spending their anniversary week at the Palma Rima with friends from a previous visit.

They did have time to see some of the wild life and even Lamin charmed a snake!!

Lamin's turn, but not quite as at ease

A rather lean time for new members but this was somewhat expected as the rainy season is now fully on us - we have had some inquiries and intentions to join but so far nothing has materialised.

The headline is in fact what I expected to be the news BUT within days of Njundu's arrival I had a letter from Lamin that at last a compound in Brufut had been bought for GTS. Not as large as the one we had seen but big enough at 36 metres by 30 metres.

I was not totally pleased with the news, because there had been NO discussion between us about this change of plan, but having spoken to Lamin, it does sound a good compound in an area where development has already started, so roads, water, electricity and phones should be connected that much sooner - especially as the President has bought a compound close by.

Njundu has settled into life in England and seems to be having a good time, spending some of his time with India and Adam, some with Owen and Helen and the rest with me.
He has visited Alton Towers, which he enjoyed, a few night clubs with Adam and Indi, He's been up to York and to the Love Parade 2000 in Leeds as well as round some of the tourist areas in London.

The rainy season is now in full swing in Gambia and a recent storm has brought down trees and phone lines so many of the phones around the Atlantic coast resorts are not working. Foday has managed to call from Lamin and we have called him back as the email is unavailable till the lines are repaired.

Yahoo still does not list us BUT Google which has recently been voted the best Internet search engine has done us proud, indexing virtually every page - we still don't appear with a search for 'Gambia' but mention Gambia and and just about anything and up comes a GTS page.

Part of using Dreamweaver as my page creation software has been a conversion of the existing pages from Word and adding Titles to each page, which I hope will further improve the sites visibility with search engines..

To end this months report on a high point we had received two very interesting email's about researching land purchase for building a hotel complex and a sixth form college interested in forming links with an African school followed by a field trip out there.

Those of you who have followed the site will know that both of these are exactly the areas that GTS wants to develop, in our attempt to improve the employment possibilities for local Gambians.
