Most search engines find the sites that pay to be found, which is fine for commercial companies, and although ther are numerous offers to take £50 and have you listed top of the rankings - gone are the days of just Yahoo and Google, there are 100's of search providers and getting near the top becomes some people's obsession.

The GTS site was first published with around 20 pages in 1998 and we sat around waiting for peolp to look at it, during that year I spent hours and hours 'Submitting' the site to every search engine I could find, adding Meta tags and keywords asking other Gambia and related sites to add links and generally boring the whole family rigid.

Slowly, if you typed the whole of GambiaTouristSupport into a search GTS started to appear - Northern light was one of the first now we are not even listed with them. eventually I gave up - word of mouth and people just finding us would have to do. I get nice emails when people do find us and we now have quite a Gambia following and with over 400 pages there is plenty for people to discover under the top level menu items.

Then a friend called to say that if you type Gambia into Yahoo GTS is listed 8th (what sort of people do that?) Well having discovered that GTS IS listed 8th, I turned into one of those people for a cou[le of evenings to see how GTS is listed with other searches the lisy on the left show ones I found listing GTS higher than 50. If you find others let me know.
