10% of sales of Gambian pictures to the GTS charity Comments to GTS |
April 2006 We have kept in touch with Tim and Emma, who exhibiyed at the CLA GameFair in 2005 at Belvoir Castle, as it happend they had a great time but didn't sell enough to cover their costs. Emma wanted their contribution to the charity to be as significant as possible and the gallery will make a one off donation in the very near future - Emma and Tim would like this to be used towards the building of a new classroom at one of the GTS schools and hope to return to Gambia to get more of the stunning art they found in 2003. More details in the very near future - in the mean time maybe you'd like to visit the Guruve website at www.guruve.com The November 2003 Entry During their 7 days they stayed at GTS Manjai and were daily regulars at the Bar and Restaurant. Apart from a visit to the African Queen where Emma was served with a curry sauce straight from a packet, we retrieved the evening for them with some wonderful dancing from our twice weekly Jola cultural dancers 'Kabinbang', who now fill the place for their hour long performance of dance, music, fire eating and limbo dancing and acrobatics. They found some excellent work from several artists and departed with around a dozen beautiful pictures. Gambian artists regularly get ripped off by collectors who offer cash on sale deals to them, but seldom or never pay up. Tim and Emma paid cash up front - they take the risk over their judgements about what will sell and what won't. You can see all the pictures on their website, they have given me permission to show one or two from each of the two artists they finally selected. As well as joining GTS as members and patronising us throughout their visit, they are contributing 10% of all sales to the GTS charity and will sponsor a child through GTS in the New Year. 5 Top
