Restaurant with Views

Most of the Hotels have their own restaurants, but there is a very wide range of different restaurants all round the Atlantic resort, prices are similar to this country from £6.00 to £15 or more per person. A tourist restaurant can be found half way up Arch 22, which provides spectacular views all round Banjul Island

This page was originally written before GTS had its own Bar and Restaurant and office in Senegambia.

Of course we think it is among the best and most visitors agree - we now feature in all the Gambian Guide books and pride ourselves on getting a high percentage of return trade. Many people say they wished they had found us earlier in their holiday and just come back night after night, year after year.

See how the GTS Restaurant has developed

The tourist restaurants provided a wide choice of foods from all over the world, fish dishes are especially recommended as the supply of fresh fish is so readily available.

We found restaurant vegetables rather sparse or frozen or tinned but the Gambians seldom seem to eat vegetables as we do, preferring in their own cookery to make a sauce that combines the flavours of the ingredients, things have improved over the past 10 years - the home growing industry now provides good garden ingredients and fresh foods from all over West Africa are available.

We didn't find any tourist restaurants that specialised in real Gambian food, for that you need to find one of the popular local eating houses and expect to pay between 50p and £1 for an excellent Domada sauce and rice for two - BUT go on the advice of a local you have got to know.

Do not expect fast service, most of the restaurants and beach bars cook the food only when it is ordered, so expect to wait 30 to 40 minutes for a main course. In Gambia chips are served cool, if you want them HOT ask when you are ordering if you can have HOT chips.

See the GTS Directory - GTS Members will get a discount from many of the Restaurants BUT ONLY if they have their GTS card with them

Some of our very favourite eating places are the Beach bars.
