Because of a change in our flight after we had booked our train from the North - we arrived at Gatwick with 12 hours to spare.

Not the most comfortable night - but plenty of time to check the tightened security regulations.

Tightened security at all UK flight departure points mean that any substance that is in a liquid, wax or gel form will be confiscated if found in your hand luggage during the much tighter controls that are currently in place.

The Duty Free areas have all their stock checked so you can purchase drinks, cosmetics - insect sprays, perfumes etc once your bags have been checked by security.

When we returned to Gambia we saw one lady have the contents of her hand luggage confiscated, another had just bought £60 worth of anti malarial sprays and even had the receipt - all were taken

We were fortunate, having spent the night at the airport, I read all the notices and adjusted our hand luggage had i not Filly would have lost most of her cosmetics, hair treatments and perfumes. Astreaus, also warned us at check in - but it was obvious that many were not warned.

Keep your eye on the press for details of changes to the regulations.
